Multiplayer in The Binding of ISAAC.

Which exists now and what we will get in the future.

In The Binding of Isaac, I played about 400+ hours. And after so many hours played, I wondered if there is a fullness to play this game with friends? To answer this question, I went to the Wiki fan page on The Binding of Isaac. There I found entertaining information:

Cooperative mode was added to Rebirth. The cooperative mode works, both in the usual passage and in the tests. The second player can join the game at any time by pressing the button Start On the second device (gamepad), the player will begin the game for a random “baby”, while one player will take one heart container from the first player. You can also return the container back if you press again Start. If the 2nd player dies, then an empty container will return back to the 1st player, and the second player will be able to appear again, but by another baby.

Both options for playing multiplayer have existed for a long time. The first option is quite interesting, but not so fun played as the second option. I tested both, and I can say that both have disadvantages that in my opinion interfere with the game with a friend.

In the first option, one of the main disadvantages is that it will be possible to play it only when at least one character you can open a baby of a satellite, who can be obtained for filling out the entire sheet of achievements. The minus is that you play for the baby, and not for a full-fledged character, which somehow breaks the feeling from the game.

The second option has a similar minus with the discovery of content, that is, in order to play for a beloved character, another player should be open. The second disadvantage is that you can’t fit in to the friend’s game, if, for example, a departure occurred.

There is a third option to play multiplayer. And this is an online cooperative for which the developer conducted beta testing in December 2023. I was one of the beta testers of this regime. This option is an improved version of the second, so, instead of choosing a character on the ground floor, we choose a character in a separate lobby of up to 4 players, where when choosing a character under it, a sheet of achievements appears, the achievements obtained in the multiplayer are highlighted in it in blue illumination. There is an opportunity to join the game started, where the players have not yet reached the womb. Also added objects that work only by cooperative.

The third option also has disadvantages, such as bugs, the inability to play in Greed Mod, there is no support for mods. But this is excusable, since it was still Beta. The release of the third option will be held in November this year:
